Eye-Movement behavior identification for AD diagnosis

چکیده
In the present work, we develop a deep-learning approach for differentiating the eyemovement behavior of people with neurodegenerative diseases over healthy control subjects during reading well-defined sentences. We define an information compaction of the eyetracking data of subjects without and with probable Alzheimer’s disease when reading a set of well-defined, previously validated, sentences including high-, low-predictable sentences, and proverbs. Using this information we train a set of denoising sparse-autoencoders and build a deep neural network with these and a softmax classifier. Our results are very promising and show that these models may help to understand the dynamics of eye movement behavior and its relationship with underlying neuropsychological correlates.

Lack of contextual-word predictability during reading in patients with mild Alzheimer disease.
In the present work we analyzed the effect of contextual word predictability on the eye movement behavior of patients with mild Alzheimer disease (AD) compared to age-matched controls, by using the eyetracking technique and lineal mixed models. Twenty AD patients and 40 age-matched controls participated in the study. We first evaluated gaze duration during reading low and highly predictable sen...
متن کاملNeurological Disorder Identification by Eye Movement Biometric using Machine Learning Schemes
In recent past [1]-[2], many neurological disorders diagnosed with the help of eye movement signals. Such type of disorders is reflected through the abnormalities of eye movements. This is why eye movement signals are being utilized for identification of such brain level abnormalities [6]-[11]. The key factor that is associated with such identification is the combined nature of human eye moveme...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study on Blinking and Eye Movement Detection via EEG Signals for Human-Robot Interaction Purposes Based on a Spherical 2-DOF Parallel Robot
Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...
متن کاملDementia with Lewy bodies.
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is the second most common diagnosis of dementia after Alzheimer disease (AD). The essential pathologic feature is the Lewy body, a neuronal inclusion containing α-synuclein, found in brainstem nuclei and the neocortex. Clinical features include early fluctuations in attention, hallucinations, and parkinsonism, with progression to a combined cortical and subcortic...
متن کاملThe utility of modeling word identification from visual input within models of eye movements in reading.
Decades of empirical work have shown that a range of eye movement phenomena in reading are sensitive to the details of the process of word identification. Despite this, major models of eye movement control in reading do not explicitly model word identification from visual input. This paper presents a argument for developing models of eye movements that do include detailed models of word identif...
